The Skill

Prep me for my portfolio calls next week.

Checked Google Calendar and Visible, sent 3 Slack briefs

Your briefs for next week (Oct 19 to 25) are in your Slack DMs. I found 5 meetings with external attendees on your Google Calendar and sent briefs.

Briefs sent:

  • Four Leaf: Q4 Board Meeting, Tue Oct 20 at 2:00 PM
  • Point9: Founder Check-in, Wed Oct 21 at 10:00 AM
  • Framer23: Monthly Sync, Thu Oct 22 at 11:30 AM

None of these had been briefed on an earlier run, so nothing was skipped as a duplicate.

Needs your attention:

  • “Syndicate update w/ Northline” (Fri Oct 23) could match both Limestone and FieldCo. Which company should I brief it for?
  • “Coffee with Alex” (Mon Oct 19) didn’t clearly match any portfolio company, so I left it out.

The Skill

Can you pull my recent board meeting with Copper and send to Visible?

Pulled Granola notes, saved to Copper in Visible

Done. Your Copper Q3 Board Meeting from Oct 14 is synced to Visible.

Portfolio note created: “Call notes: Copper, Oct 14, 2026 2:00 PM” is saved on Copper’s profile. It covers:

  • Q3 performance: revenue came in ahead of plan, driven by two enterprise expansions. Net retention improved quarter over quarter.
  • Hiring: the VP of Sales search is down to two finalists, with an offer expected by mid-November.
  • Product: the self-serve tier launches in Q4. The board asked for a pricing review before launch.
  • Fundraising: management plans to start Series B conversations in Q1 and wants board intros to three target firms.
  • Follow-ups: the CFO is sending the updated 2027 operating plan by Nov 1, and you’re making the intro to Northline Ventures.

There was no existing note for this meeting, so nothing was skipped as a duplicate.

The Skill

Any founder asks I haven’t gotten to yet?

Found 4 new founder asks, sent to Slack

Your digest is in your Slack DMs. I checked Visible requests and Granola call notes from the last 30 days and found 4 new asks across 3 companies.

New asks surfaced:

  • Cinema (2): a VP of Sales candidate referral from the Sep 28 call, and Series B timing advice from the Oct 14 board meeting.

Already surfaced:

  • 2 older asks on Blotted Tech and Snorkl were flagged in an earlier digest, so I left them out. Ask me what’s already been flagged if you want to see them.

Each new ask is logged as a note on its company in Visible, titled “Company Ask”, so it won’t show up in a future digest.

The Skill

Update the Beacon Labs slide in our Q3 LP deck with the latest numbers.

Updated 1 slide, flagged 2 data issues

Done. I updated the Beacon Labs slide in your Q3 LP deck and kept your layout and metrics. New headline: Beacon Labs grew ARR 72% to $8.3M while runway fell to 9.7 months.

What changed:

  • ARR: $8.3M, up from $4.8M a year ago, but 10% below the Q3 plan of $9.1M.
  • Net retention: 128.7%, up 9.8 points year over year.
  • Runway: 9.7 months, down from 20.8. Added as a watch item.

Check before this goes to LPs:

  • Stale marks: all positions are still carried at cost, though the Series C priced shares at $18.00, compared with $3.10 at the Series A.
  • Cash doesn’t reconcile: $7.2M was reported for Q3 2025, one quarter after a $50M Series C.

The Skill

Prep this week’s portfolio review.

Rolled the deck forward, 2 status changes

Your deck for Monday is ready. I copied last week’s deck and refreshed every company. The structure is unchanged: same 9 sections, same company order.

Status changes since last week:

  • Beacon Labs moved to Watch. Runway is down to 9.7 months, and Q3 ARR came in 10% below plan.
  • Strata Finance moved to Watch. No update has been submitted for one reporting period.

New this week:

  • 3 updates received, from Halcyon AI, Beacon Labs, and Meridian Genomics.
  • Deep-dive slot 1 is filled by Beacon Labs. Slots 2 and 3 are marked not needed this week.

Action items:

  • 7 carried forward, 2 of them overdue.
  • 1 marked “Done?” for the team to confirm: the Polaris Security intro, based on an Oct 22 note.

The Skill

Prep me for the Beacon Labs board meeting on Thursday.

Built a prep brief with 3 priority questions

Your brief for Thursday is ready. Headline: growth is strong, but ARR missed plan and runway is now under 10 months, so financing should be on the agenda.

Priority questions:

  • ARR vs. plan: “ARR landed at $8.3M against a $9.1M plan. How much of the gap is pipeline that slipped into Q4, and how much won’t close?”
  • Runway: “With 9.7 months of runway, when does the Series D process start, and what’s the plan if it slips?”
  • Burn: “Quarterly burn is up 28% to $1.3M. Which hires or programs drove it, and which are tied to revenue?”

Also in the brief: our position across three funds, last meeting’s commitments on both sides, and how we can help.

Heads up: the board deck hasn’t been shared yet, so it isn’t checked against Visible’s numbers.

The Skill

Build the Q3 SOI for Fund I in Google Sheets.

Built the Fund I SOI, ties to Visible

Your Fund I Schedule of Investments as of September 30, 2026 is ready in Google Sheets, and it ties to Visible.

  • 6 positions: 3 SAFEs and 3 convertible notes.
  • Totals: $1,250,000 at cost and $1,250,000 at fair value.
  • Tabs: Schedule, Tie-out, Detail with every Visible record ID, and Notes.

Resolve before audit:

  • Stale marks: all 6 positions are still carried at cost, with marks from 2021 to early 2023.
  • Beacon Labs SAFE: still recorded as a SAFE, though Beacon has since raised a Series A, B, and C. It likely converted.
  • Matured notes: Cardinal Health Data, Meridian Genomics, and Polaris Security are all past maturity, with no conversion or repayment recorded.

The Skill

Run the anomaly detector before I pull numbers for the LP update.

Scanned 12 companies, found 2 Critical and 2 Review flags

Scan complete. I checked 12 companies across 15 months of metrics and found 2 Critical flags and 2 to review.

Critical:

  • Halcyon AI (Cash Balance, Q3 2026): 4,150, compared with 4,380,000 the quarter before. This looks like it was entered in thousands. Proposed correction: 4,150,000 USD.
  • Strata Finance (ARR, Sep 2026): 210,000, while MRR is 210,000. The two values look swapped. Proposed correction: 2,520,000 USD.

Review:

  • Polaris Security (Runway, Q3 2026): reported as 18 months, but cash divided by burn gives 11.
  • Meridian Genomics (Revenue): values climb all year and reset in January, which suggests YTD totals were entered as quarterly values.

Reply with the flag numbers to confirm, and I’ll send the corrections to the AI Inbox.

Run the metric alert check on my portfolio and ping the deal leads on anything that’s off.

Checked portfolio metrics, sent 2 Slack alerts

Scan complete. I checked all 9 portfolio companies against your two thresholds and sent 2 new alerts.

New alerts sent:

  • Valuira (runway): 8.1 months, from $2.1M cash and $260K net monthly burn. DMed Sarah Kim.
  • Lopix (ARR decline): down 14.7% quarter over quarter, from $3.4M on Jun 30 to $2.9M on Sep 30. DMed Sarah Kim and Daniel Ortiz, since Lopix has two deal leads.

Needs your attention:

  • Rivermount Inc. (runway): 9.6 months, but I couldn’t find a Slack user matching the deal lead “Jordan Ellis.” I didn’t send or log anything, so this will come up again next run. Updating the Deal Lead field in Visible will fix it.

Who do we know that could help with Beacon Labs’ VP of Sales search?

Found 2 strong matches, drafted 1 intro

I found Beacon Labs’ open ask from their Oct 14 update: a VP of Sales with mid-market SaaS experience. Two people in your Affinity network are strong fits.

Shortlist:

  • Dana Whitfield, CRO at Larkspur Software. Strongest relationship: Sarah Kim has had 9 interactions with her this year. She built a mid-market sales team from 5 to 60 reps.
  • Marcus Lee, former VP Sales at Brightwell. Daniel Ortiz knows him well. He’s between roles, according to a September note.

I left out a third candidate who is marked do-not-contact in Affinity.

The intro to Dana is drafted in your Gmail and addressed to you for review. Nothing has been sent.
