"The richness of insight delivered by the data compounds over time. It's been invaluable to refer back to during portfolio company catch-ups — particularly to identify if there's a delta between the projections a founder produced at IC and where they actually are, and if they're behind, what we can do to support them."

The Firm Behind the Fund

Haatch is one of the UK's most operationally active pre-seed and seed investors. With £134M under management and 180+ B2B SaaS companies in its portfolio, the firm backs founders early and gets to work immediately, deploying a team of operators across five structured support pillars: Commercial & Go-to-Market, Fundraising, Network & Introductions, the Operating Partner Program, and Talent & Pastoral Support.

It's an ambitious, hands-on model. One that requires the right infrastructure to function at scale.

When the Portfolio Outgrows the Playbook

Haatch's hands-on model was working. But as the portfolio grew to 150+ companies, the processes that had served them well at 50 couldn't keep up with the complexity of managing 40+ fund vehicles, hundreds of founder relationships, and a growing LP base simultaneously.

Portfolio data lived across multiple tools, and with a lean team, there was no efficient way to quickly answer questions like: "Which companies need attention right now?" The goal was always proactive support, but without a centralized data layer, staying ahead of the portfolio required more manual effort than the team could sustainably absorb.

"Data was being captured but not consistently translated into insights that could guide portfolio or fund-level decision-making. This created unnecessary operational drag on already limited resources."

— Aini & Sophie, Investments & Portfolio Team, Haatch

The team needed to move from reactive portfolio management to something built to scale.

Why Visible: Depth, Structure, and Partnership

When Haatch evaluated alternatives in 2020, the structural gap was clear. Fund performance and company KPIs were spread across disjointed spreadsheets. Visible helps manage investment metrics across 40+ distinct fund vehicles simultaneously, FMV, IRR, multiples, ownership percentages, unrealized and realized gains, holding periods, and total capital deployed, all inline with company KPIs and performance.

The founder experience mattered too. Visible's request model lands directly in a founder's inbox, requires no account creation, and sends automated reminders, removing the single biggest barrier to adoption for structured data collection at scale.

"That's not a configuration you can replicate in a spreadsheet without significant manual overhead, and it would have collapsed under the weight of 180+ companies across multiple SEIS and EIS vehicles."

Building a Data Layer That Works for Everyone

Today, Visible anchors a broader data centralization effort at Haatch, connecting with Attio, Notion, and internal performance infrastructure, including Visible's MCP server, which lets team members query portfolio data through AI-powered interfaces rather than manually navigating dashboards.

Every portfolio company submits monthly updates via Visible Requests covering ARR/MRR, burn, runway, and headcount, as well as quarterly investor updates on milestones, fundraising status, and specific asks.

A qualitative "highs, lows, asks" section rounds out each Request, surfacing context the numbers alone can't capture. Twice a year, this data feeds into the Haatch Portfolio Benchmark Report, segmented by sector, ARR band, and stage, which is shared back with founders in anonymized form so they can benchmark themselves against the cohort.

From Reactive to Anticipatory: The Results

LP feedback has been consistently positive. The team can now identify which companies are at higher risk, which are actively fundraising, and where intervention is most needed, all from a single source, rather than ad hoc updates and tribal knowledge.

"Visible has shifted Haatch from reactive to anticipatory portfolio management. Decisions are data-backed rather than anecdotal, and the team can allocate its limited time to where it will have the most impact."

When the Data Speaks for Itself: The Graduation Report

Haatch had a clear ambition: give the wider team real clarity on portfolio health, graduation rates, and performance benchmarks so anyone could quickly understand what was happening across the portfolio and where to focus.

The answer was already sitting in Visible.

Using years of consistently collected data from Visible Requests, the team analyzed how portfolio companies looked at the moment they graduated from pre-seed to seed, and from seed to Series A. The metrics the team focused on were the ones that told the clearest story at each transition: ARR and revenue milestones, growth rates, gross margins, net revenue retention, burn multiples, and team size.

Patterns emerged around what strong performance actually looked like at each stage, where ranges were wider than expected, and what separated companies that graduated cleanly from those that needed more runway.

"It's the kind of insight that simply wouldn't have been possible without having consistent, structured data flowing in through Visible over time."

— Aini & Sophie, Investments & Portfolio Team, Haatch

That benchmark is now baked into how the investments & portfolio team supports founders, comparing a company's current trajectory against real cohort data rather than assumptions. The report is also shared back with the portfolio in anonymized form, so every founder can benchmark themselves against the cohort. Data infrastructure becomes a direct benefit for founders.

For other VCs, the foundation that makes this possible is simpler than it sounds: consistent, structured data collected over time. Visible makes that achievable in more ways than one, whether through Requests, direct integrations, or AI Inbox. However, the data comes in, the compounding value of having it in one place builds over time, and the insight it unlocks at scale is exactly what Haatch's graduation report proves is possible.

Over 950 VC funds are using Visible to streamline their portfolio monitoring and reporting process.
