Product Update: Charts in Updates & More!

Published January 12, 2016

Data without context is dangerous.

Typically the creator of a chart or dashboard is really the only one who understand what it means. It’s dangerous to hand this kind of data over without giving context and educating the consumer of the data. I’m willing to bet 99% of people have been in the following meeting:

Steve: (presents PowerPoint slide with chart). “As you can see Active Users are up 25% this month, we are hitting our goals!” (forwards to next slide)

Sarah: “Hold up. Can you go back a second? How are we defining active users again?”

Joe: “Wait. Why is it up 25% when our previous months are usually around 10%?”

Steve: “Active users have created at least one piece of content in the last 30 days. We ramped our marketing spend to $7,000 in FB ads this month resulting in the change”.

This dialogue ends up creating a great discussion but it happens in person. Imagine sending financials, dashboards or other sets of data and leaving the interpretation up to the consumer…it’s dangerous!

Don’t worry the Visible team is going to give you the ? (keys to success) to start properly telling your story. Over the next couple of months the Visible team will be heavily investing in this very problem. Today, we are excited to announce the first step in that direction:

Data Visualizations & Images in Updates

You can now add different rich types (like charts) of content along side your standard rich text. This is the first (of many) steps into empowering creators to give the context of their data and tell their story in a more compelling way. The best part? We will render these charts and images in email too!

We’ve also added the ability to easily add images. We realize it was a huge PITA to self-host the image to be able to include it in an update. We’ve got you covered. Simply select the image icon and start uploading images files directly.

We hope you enjoy this release! As always, feel free to email us with any questions or feedback!
